This year, July has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This happens
once every 823 years.

Kind of interesting - read on!!!

This year we're going to experience four unusual dates.

1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/11 and that's not all...

Take the last two digits of the year in which you were born - now add
the age you will be this year,

The results will be 111 for everyone in the whole world.

World's Most Dangerous Airports...

The most dangerous airports in the world, from offshore airports in Japan to ice covered ones in Antarctica to an airport which has a road that runs through it in Gibraltar!

Lukla Airport Nepal

Since Lukla, Nepal is the place most people start their Mount Everest trek, this Himalayan strip gets quite a bit of traffic--mostly to and from Kathmandu.

Sirens inform folks for miles when an air-plane is landing here, and as you would suspect, only helicopters and Twin Otter type planes can handle the 2,000 foot, uphill runway that is fenced off at the end, to protect you from the edge of a mountain cliff.

Kansai International Airport

Osaka, Japan
Land is a scarce resource in Japan, so engineers headed roughly 3 miles offshore into Osaka Bay to build this colossal structure. Work on the man-made island started in 1987, and by 1994 jumbo jets were touching down. Travellers can get from the airport to the main island of Honshu via car, rail-road or even a high-speed ferry.

Gibraltar Airport

Between Morocco and Spain sits the tiny British territory of Gibraltar. Construction of the airport dates back to World War II, and it continues to serve as a base for the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force, though commercial flights land on a daily basis.

Madeira International Airport

Madeira, Portugal
Madeira is a small island far off the coast of Portugal, which makes an airport that is capable of landing commercial-size aircraft vital to its development. This airport's original runway was only about 5000 feet long, posing a huge risk to even the most experienced pilots and limiting imports and tourism.

Ice Runway

Antarctica
The Ice Runway is one of three major airstrips used to haul supplies and researchers to Antarctica's McMurdo Station. As its name implies, there are no paved runways here—just long stretches of ice and snow that are meticulously groomed.
There is no shortage of space on the Ice Runway, so super-size aircraft like the C-130 Hercules and the C-17 Globemaster III can land with relative ease. The real challenge is making sure that the weight of the aircraft and cargo doesn't bust the ice or get the plane stuck in soft snow. As the ice of the runway begins to break up, planes are redirected to Pegasus Field or Williams Field, the two other airstrips servicing the continent.

Congonhas Airport

Sao Paulo, Brazil
Most major cities have an airport, but rarely are they built just 5 miles from the city centre, especially in metropolises like Sao Paulo. Congonhas' close proximity to down-town can be attributed in part to the fact that it was completed in 1936, with the city experiencing rapid development in the following decades.

Courchevel International Airport

Courchevel, France
Getting to the iconic ski resort of Courchevel requires navigating the formidable French Alps before making a hair-raising landing at Courchevel International Airport. The runway is about 1700 feet long, but the real surprise is the large hill toward the middle of the strip.

Princess Juliana International Airport

Simpson Bay, Saint Maarten
Nothing says fun in the sun like roaring engines and the smell of jet exhaust. Landing on this Caribbean island forces pilots to fly over a small strip of beach, clear a decent-size fence and pass over a road just before hitting the runway.

Svalbard Airport

Svalbard, Norway
Svalbard is a cluster of Norwegian islands sitting in the Arctic Ocean. While there are three airports within the archipelago, two of which are used mainly to transport miners, Svalbard Airport is open to commercial travel, making it the world's northernmost airport that tourists can book tickets to.

Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport

Saba, Netherlands Antilles
Getting to this paradise-like island can be a bit distressing thanks to a 1300-foot-long runway, slightly longer than most aircraft carrier runways.

Update on Noah the pigeon...

We are Bob and Georganne Lenham of Wild Rose Rescue Ranch in Texas, home of Noah the Pigeon.

After finding many posts online featuring Noah and the bunnies and reading about the many lives he has touched (his story has been forwarded around the world) we thought we'd post a follow-up and a few new photos.

We knew there was something special about Noah the moment we saw him.  Although the bunnies seem to be his favourite, Noah helps out with many rescue babies here at the Wild Rose Rescue Ranch...

Noah's first litter of bunnies, almost raised and ready for release.

Now, Noah helps out with many rescue babies here.  How wonderful it is to have a full-time soft-feathered nurturer here at the rescue ranch!  He cuddles with all the babies as they snuggle under his warm feathers...and he "coos" as if singing them to sleep with a lullaby.  Noah is truly, truly a God-send.

He will cover you with His feathers
And under His wings you will find refuge.

Noah the Pigeon...

These little bunnies, about 6 days old, were attacked by a dog and orphaned.
Two out of the litter of five did not survive, and these three were not doing very well.
Noah is a non-releasable, one-legged homing pigeon/rock dove that is in the rehab centre.
Noah kept going over to the bunny cage and looking in -- even sleeping in front of the door to the cage.
Then, suddenly, there were only two bunnies in the cage.  But when Noah moved a bit from the front of the cage to everyone's surprise...there was the tiny bunny...under Noah's wing...sound asleep! That little bunny rabbit had crawled through the cage, preferring a feather-bed, no doubt to snuggling up with its litter-mates!
Now, they are all together and the bunnies are doing GREAT. When the bunnies scoot underneath Noah's feathers, he carefully extends his wings out to surround them and then they snuggle. When one of them moves and they start sticking out here and there, he gently pushes them back under him with his beak!  It is beautiful and amazing to see...
~*~
This is what God does with us when we need the warmth and love He offers.
He gathers us under His loving wings to a warm cradle of protection.
All we need do in return is give Him the thanks and praise for being with us.

As I've aged...

I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray-hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avant-garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with ageing.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 &70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ..... I will.
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.

So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think.. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it).

MAY OUR FRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART!

A Friendship Rose for You!

Dear God...
I don't know all of the challenges my friends have,
But
YOU know EVERYTHING.
I hear their silence;
YOU
hear their prayers.
I see their laughter;

YOU
see their tears.
I see when they give;

YOU
see what's been taken from them.
I see their beautiful appearance;

YOU
see the scars in their soul.
I experience their faith;

YOU
know their doubts.
My prayer for them God, is that YOU give them everything they may need and bless them abundantly.

Taschia Slabbert...

Sterkte...xxxx

Maggie de Beer...

EK DINK VANDAG AAN JOU.....
More by Bok,

Jy sal heel dag in my gedagtes wees – ek hoop jy gaan OK wees?

Ek het (dumbass) my foon by die huis gelos – so skryf maar vir my ‘n mail – ek sal dit later vanoggend kry – ek gaan nou van 8 uur af in ‘n meeting.

Ek weet nie hoe jou gemoed is nie Bok – wil jy alleen wees, of sal ons vanaand miskien ietsie gaan eet – laat my weet, en ek pas daarby aan.

Ek wil ook se dat daar nie ‘n dag verby gaan dat ek nie dankbaar is dat jy weer in my lewe is nie – love you lots!

Tare care my lam, laat my weet wat jy wil doen, en weereens, jy is vandag in my gedagtes.

Lovies,

Mamma

It is very difficult to believe it has been one year since you passed through Heaven’s Gate.
I miss your touch, your laughter and your infectious smile that could make my day a day worthwhile!
You enriched my life in many ways; you were more than just a friend.
Like a pearl you had many layers of wisdom and charm.
I was blessed to have had you around.
Our friendship grew.
Your lively spirit was my beacon of light that inspired me to become a better person.
You chose to live life to its fullest.
New challenges came up for you, and I watched you peacefully come head to head with each new challenge.
I saw you do this before...I knew you'd be o.k.
Your journey was soon to be over...on Sunday, 27 June 2010, the shimmering road to the golden gate flung wide. And you, my friend, courageously entered.
On your birthday that year I bought you some candles. I light them on your birthday. I will light them again on October 04. I know your presence will be near for the gift of friendship is ours to share.
If there's one thing I know for sure, and that is nothing on this earth can separate us, not time, not space, not even death! You my friend, live forever in my heart.
RIP My Angel Boy...
Always,
Deon, Tjupi, Gummi & Lucky
